The Call Center

What is the Call Center?
The Iowa Victim Service Call Center is a resource to victims and survivors of crime in Iowa.  With staff available 24 hours a day and 365 days a year, callers are given the full attention they deserve.  Since we started, we have received calls from victims and survivors of many crimes, including:
  • homicide
  • robbery
  • kidnapping
  • identity theft
  • hate crime
  • elder abuse
  • drunk driving
  • burglary
  • bullying
  • assault
  • arson
  • human trafficking
  • incest
  • sexual abuse as a child
  • sexual assault
  • child physical abuse
  • stalking
  • teen dating violence
  • domestic violence, and more.
Every advocate at the Call Center receives extensive training in all these crime issues. We work with the Iowa Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the Iowa Coalition Against Sexual Assault to train our staff. Advocates are also instructed by many of the culturally-specific groups from around Iowa. All this ensures that our advocates are well prepared and able to support each caller.

Why do victims and survivors call the Iowa Victim Service Call Center?
There are many answers to that question. Some victims call because they need to talk about past hurts they have experienced. Others are searching for resources but don't want to disclose their personal information. Some callers are looking for help contacting law enforcement. Others want to find someone who will listen and believe them. Our advocates can be the support that survivors are looking for.

Who can call?
Besides victims and survivors of crime, family members and friends can call as well. Our advocates are ready and able to help.  No matter who calls in, they can expect no fees and no judgment – just a listening, caring person. You don't need to identify yourself, and everything you say is completely confidential.
